Biology 12 Classroom Expectations
- Students are expected to come to class prepared, on time, and in uniform. Being prepared constitutes:
- having reviewed the previous days material
- bringing your textbook, binder, and writing supplies
- using dividers for each section in your notebook (there are 10 sections: 1.The Cell, 2. Biochemistry, 3. DNA / Protein Synthesis, 4. Cancer / Enzymes, 5. The Digestive System, 6. The Circulatory System, 7. The Respiratory System, 8. The Nervous System, 9. The Urinary System, and 10. The Reproductive System)
- Assignment and lab due dates are firm. Unexcused lates will lose 10% of their value each day. Unless otherwise stated, labs and assignments must be typed, and handed in at the beginning of class to receive full marks. No assignments will be accepted after the class set has been marked and handed back.
- If a student is away when work is assigned, it is up to that student to find out find out what has been assigned in their absence (this can be done by phoning a reliable friend). Lack of knowledge of assigned work will not be considered a valid excuse.
- If a student is absent the day of a test or quiz, they must see the teacher immediately upon their return (the same day if they missed a period, the next day if they missed a full day). A student is expected to make up the test they missed on their first class back. If this fails to happen due to student negligence, there will be a penalty of 10% per day (just like a late assignment).
- The lab skills in Biology are integral to the course and very important if you decide to pursue this science at the post – secondary level. Therefore, it is expected that every student will participate actively in all dissections.
- If a student is to be successful in a Grade 12 Provincially examinable course (especially one as content heavy as Biology), they must do the following:
- Make sure you learn as much as you can during class time. Ask your teacher as many questions as necessary and seek extra help when needed.
- Review at regular intervals. Continuous study is what will allow you to understand the material and interrelate it with the other material of the course.
- Practice previous provincial exams on the internet. This is a crucial part of your test preparation for any provincially examinable subject as it prepares you for the level of questioning you will face on a provincial exam. The two most important web sites in your life for the next year will be
www.quizmebc.ca and
www.gov.bc.ca/bced/
